Mindflayer Rank: IV Petitioner: Warrior Guromu, Lull of the Land/Jahara Reward: 2200 Gil, Carmagnole |
This mark loves his magick. He will cast spells such as sap, and Stop on your party. His deadly spell though is Invert. This switches a characters HP and MP. If this occurs, quickly heal your character, so he or she does not get knocked out. A pretty good way to counter this is with Berserk. While under Berserk, the Mindflayer cannot hit you with spells. This might not always connect, so do not waste valuable time and MP if you are not getting it to work. Just be ready to remove status effects throughout the fight. Towards the end, Mindflayer will use a technique that completely heals him, plus adds Haste, Protect, and Shell. This cannot be countered by Berserk or any other spell, since it is not really a spell. Just Dispel his protections, and go at him again.
When you finish this battle, and return, Guromu tells you that the Geomancer Yugelu wishes to speak with you. He will tell you of a great power lying at the end of the Henne Mines. However, he says that you are not ready yet. You must first gather many great beings. This is of course referencing the Espers. Once you command at least 10 Espers, Yugelu will unlock the final gate in Henne Mines, that leads to the Esper Zodiark. |

Braegh Rank: IV Petitioner: Va'Kansa, Babbling Vale/Mosphoran Highwaste Reward: 1700 Gil, Obelisk, Hi-Ether |
Braegh will cast Immobilizega to try and stop your party's movments. This can be countered by Decoying the main fighter, and keeping the rest out of range. He will also hit the party with other spells such as Bleed and Poison. Be ready to counter the spell with Esuna/ga, or items.
Braegh sometimes will throw up a magick field that prevents magick from damaging him. Since he uses this throughout the battle, you should stick with a strong physical attacks. If you can Silence him, do so. Braegh is also another user of Invert, so prepare accordingly. A risky trick is to cast Reflect on a party member, and bounce Invert back at him. If it is successful, this fight will become real easy, real fast. |

Darksteel Rank: IV Petitioner: Homesick Man, Vint's Armaments/Archades Reward: 3000 Gil, Lead Bolts, Adamantite |
Use Dispel immediately to remove Protect, Shell, and above all Bravery. Darksteel will cast Protect throughout the battle, so be ready to remove it. Keep two characters out of range, so his area attacks don't affect them, and have the main fighter focus on the heavy damage. Weapons with Holy attibutes will do greater damage, since Darksteel has a weakness to it. If it is late enough, you might have a range character with the spell use Holy for added damage. When the turtle gets close to death, it will begin to constantly bombard the party with Darkra. Bring in equipment that protects against dark, or set up a massive Quickening before the Darkra can become lethal. |
